Here’s to a beer bellyful of profits!

Beer’s brewing profits, and how! Thanks to strong sales growth in the Americas and Eastern Europe, Dutch brewer Heineken (the world’s fourth-largest brewer in terms of sales) has reported a 14% rise in its operating profits for the first-half of the year. The company announced that operating profits stood at euros 726 million – a figure that has hands down beaten the median forecast of euros 711 million in a media poll of nine analysts. What’s more, revenues were pegged at euros 5.74 billion, again well above the forecast of euros 5.68 billion (thanks to the fact that the Heineken brand boosted its share in the global premium segment, and the sales of its new light beer, Heineken Premium Light, has exceeded expectations). The beer company is now targeting markets like Russia and the South East Asian region through mergers and acquisitions, cost cutting measures and launching new products, such as low-carb beer.
