IIPM : The Dream Rs.1 Lakh car in West Bengal
Before I finish my editorial for this special anniversary issue, it’s my responsibility to say that though we did say that the Left was going to come back to power in West Bengal, the Left front completely beat our estimation of margins. There was no semblance of a close battle and it became a landslide victory for the Left . And that, as we mentioned, is great news for West Bengal. In a near rigging free environment, the Left has retained its power and regained its Bhadralok image. Though, as we had said, it’s true that a unified opposition would have made the scenario look hugely different. Yet, one has to admit that Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has completely given a new face to West Bengal – best evident by his first press conference after swearing in, where he announced that the TATAs were going to set up the plant for their dream Rs.1 Lakh car in West Bengal – and therefore got the voters’ confidence once more! The Left front remains afloat and kicking, and in Indian politics of last twenty five years, it’s a big milestone! And finally I hope you enjoy this journey back in time, as much as we enjoyed building this road layer by layer! Cheers!!....
