Here’s a no-brainer – guess what was the most important criterion for making it to the list of America’s ‘Hundred Best Corporate Citizens’? Environment protection, of course! Corporate bigwigs are waking up to the significance of measures to ensure that their CSR actually has environmental relevance. PepsiCo recently announced that it will purchase enough ‘Green-e certified’ renewable energy certificates (RECs). IBM received an award from the WWF and the Center for Energy & Climate Solutions in 2005 for being the first company to meet its program commitment (it actually exceeded the goal of achieving an average annual CO2 by 1.7% since 1998). AMD, Intel & Xerox (amongst many others) are also working together to develop guidelines and monitoring procedures to address various global socio-environmental issues.
