A life doused in drinks, buried in financial woes, scarred by infidelities infinite, and blessed with a talent, which chiselled to perfection yielded verses both forceful and profound. Dylan Thomas, an irrepressible romantic, dug deep into his world to bring to life poesies that sung of his childhood days, of religion, of war, of relationships and responsibilities and of the shadow of death that mars our carefree lives.

Considered amongst the greatest of 20th century poets, Dylan’s art is annually celebrated at the Dylan Thomas Festival beginning his birth date, October 27. To continue till November 9 at the Dylan Thomas Centre, the Festival will be held across several venues in his native city, Swansea in Wales, with two weeks dedicated to his poetry, his contemporaries and for the first time, the Dylan Thomas Prize worth £60,000 for an original published work by an author under 30.

The year 2006 saw the entry of Versace, Escada, Lambourgini & many others waiting in the line, including Llardo, Valentino, Gucci & Giorgio Armani. Echoes Gregory J. Furman, Chairman & Founder of Luxury Marketing Council, “With the affluent consumer segment set to grow at 13% over the next few years – the market presents tremendous potential for luxury goods.”

Indian players are now bringing in global brands to tap this unexplored market. Tarun Joshi, CEO, S. Kumar, which roped in Escada, states, “A globally famous brand does help high class customers.”

EU: Trade is a ‘two-way street’

The European Union (EU) has urged China to increase access to its domestic markets. EU has asked China to lower the entry barrier and relax restrictions for foreign companies, which are willing to do business in China. EU said that it was Europe’s openness to Chinese products that ultimately helped China gain the invincible market shares in consumer products all over the world. So, now it’s China’s turn to open its market and prove that trade is ‘two-way street’. European Union runs a trade deficit of $133 billion with China, and is currently China’s largest
